About this Talk

Dr. Ellington is a speaker and internationally acclaimed and awarded fashion scholar. She’s authored four books, including the award-winning TEXTURES: The History and Art of Black Hair, a work she wrote for its namesake exhibition featuring artifacts and contemporary artworks musing on Black hair and Black culture. Dr. Ellington co-curated this exhibit. Her most recent book is Black Hair in a White World (Kent State University Press 2023). Dr. Tameka hosts the Black Beauty Activist Podcast ,where she engages in critical conversations with her guests to disrupt Westernized beauty standards and raise Black women's consciousness and confidence.
